Courageous AF: Rewriting Your Story in Real Time with Lorraine Davies
The Courage Ripple Begins
(00:00)
Kimberly Spencer: Welcome back to the Communication Queen Podcast, where we help you communicate like the Queen you are so you can stand out, speak up, and create your empire through courageous storytelling and leadership.
Today, I am so excited to bring you a conversation about courage, congruence, and the raw truth of rewriting your story in real time. Because let’s be real, Queen — it’s one thing to talk about transformation after it happens… it’s another thing to share it while you’re still in it.
That’s exactly what we’re diving into with today’s guest, Lorraine Davies, a Self-Leadership and Energetics Mentor for Heart-Driven Entrepreneurs. Lorraine has walked through fire — from £80K in debt to building a soul-led business — and she’s here to talk about courage, alignment, and how storytelling can turn pain into power.
(00:03:15)
Lorraine Davies: Thank you so much for having me, Kimberly. I’ve listened to your podcast for a while, and this conversation feels like divine timing. Courage has been such a theme for me lately — not the big flashy kind, but the quiet, consistent kind that asks you to keep showing up, even when it’s messy.
Kimberly Spencer: Yes! That kind of courage — the “I don’t have it all figured out, but I’m still moving” courage — that’s the heartbeat of growth. It’s what I call storytelling in real time. When we allow ourselves to narrate the middle of our journey, we invite connection, not just attention.
Owning the Messy Middle
(00:06:02)
Lorraine Davies: Absolutely. I used to think I could only share my story once I had the perfect “after” photo. You know, once I was fully healed, successful, and had ticked all the boxes. But that’s just ego disguised as professionalism.
The truth is, when I was deep in debt, dealing with depression, and watching my marriage unravel, it was courage that got me up each day — courage to face myself, to keep learning, to take one small step toward integrity.
Kimberly Spencer: That’s so powerful. I think we’ve been conditioned to believe that we can’t be the expert and the evolving human at the same time. But real leadership — the kind that transforms — happens when you allow people to see you as you’re expanding.
(00:08:44)
Lorraine Davies: Exactly. It’s funny — I used to admire women who looked like they had it all together. Then I realized I wasn’t inspired by their perfection; I was disconnected from it. The ones who shared their tears, their doubts, their real-life chaos — those were the ones who made me believe I could do it too.
Courage as a Daily Practice
(00:11:17)
Kimberly Spencer: Let’s talk about that — the daily practice of courage. Because courage isn’t just for the big leaps, right? It’s also in the tiny moments — choosing to get visible, to record a video when you don’t feel “ready,” to post a message from your heart instead of your marketing plan.
Lorraine Davies: Yes. Every time I choose alignment over avoidance, I feel that expansion in my body. My nervous system still freaks out sometimes, but I’ve learned to breathe through it. That’s the embodied part of courage — staying with yourself when you want to run.
(00:14:20)
Kimberly Spencer: That’s the storytelling gold right there — staying with yourself. Because your story doesn’t just evolve when circumstances change; it evolves when you do. The courage to stay in your body, in your truth, in your voice — that’s what turns pain into purpose.
The Visibility Edge
(00:16:58)
Lorraine Davies: And it’s wild how the more I own my truth, the more my business naturally aligns. People can feel it. My messaging has become clearer, my energy lighter, and my content more magnetic. Visibility isn’t about pushing harder — it’s about being more congruent.
Kimberly Spencer: Mmm, congruence — yes. That’s one of my favorite words. When your energy and message are aligned, your audience doesn’t just hear you — they trust you. That’s what makes storytelling so powerful. It’s not just what you say; it’s how courage flows through your words.
(00:19:54)
Lorraine Davies: That’s it. Courage is contagious. The more I show up with my full truth, the more permission I give others to do the same. And that ripple effect — that’s what storytelling is all about.
From Breakdown to Breakthrough
(00:20:02)
Kimberly Spencer: I love that so much — “courage is contagious.” Because it really is. When one woman stands in her truth, it’s like she creates a frequency that other women can tune into. And that’s why storytelling is so transformational — it’s energetic leadership in action.
Lorraine Davies: Exactly. It’s like when I started talking openly about my debt and my divorce, I expected judgment. But what actually happened was that people came forward saying, “Oh my God, me too.” It gave them permission to exhale.
(00:22:37)
Kimberly Spencer: That’s the beauty of courageous storytelling — when you bring light to something you once hid in the dark, it loses its power over you. And it gives others the safety to release their own shame.
Lorraine Davies: Yes. And that’s why I always say: courage isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s just the quiet decision to move anyway. That moment when your stomach turns, your hands shake, and you post it anyway — that’s courage.
The Truth About Ego and Alignment
(00:25:16)
Kimberly Spencer: Let’s talk about ego for a second — because it sneaks in even when we’re being “authentic,” right? How do you check yourself and make sure what you’re sharing comes from service, not validation?
Lorraine Davies: Great question. For me, it’s a body check. If I’m posting something and I feel contracted, like I’m bracing for a reaction, it’s probably ego. But if I feel open and grounded, it’s coming from truth.
When I’m truly aligned, I’m not trying to prove anything. I’m just expressing what’s alive in me. And that’s when people resonate the most.
(00:28:04)
Kimberly Spencer: That’s so good — and so aligned with what I teach. Congruence is the key to credibility. When your words and your energy don’t match, your audience feels it immediately.
And I think a lot of entrepreneurs burn out not because they’re doing too much, but because they’re doing too much out of alignment.
Lorraine Davies: Exactly. It’s like being on stage delivering a talk that looks powerful from the outside, but internally, your body’s screaming, “This isn’t the truth anymore.” You can’t fake energetic congruence.
Courage as a Nervous System Practice
(00:31:17)
Kimberly Spencer: That’s where the body comes in, right? Because courage isn’t just a mindset — it’s a full-body practice.
Lorraine Davies: Totally. Courage lives in the body. When you expand your capacity to hold uncomfortable emotions, you expand your capacity to hold more of everything — success, visibility, money, joy.
When I was healing, I had to train my nervous system to feel safe being seen. It wasn’t just “think positive” — it was, “Can I breathe while my heart races? Can I stay with myself when my voice shakes?”
(00:34:09)
Kimberly Spencer: Mmm, that’s so real. I think so many women wait until they “feel ready” — but readiness doesn’t come from the mind. It’s created through movement and self-trust.
Lorraine Davies: Exactly. The universe rewards movement, not waiting for perfect timing. Every time I acted with courage, even when I was scared, the next step revealed itself.
The Pivot Point
(00:36:32)
Kimberly Spencer: I want to talk about your business pivot — because you went through a huge shift, right? From running something that looked successful on paper to building this energetically aligned version of your work now.
Lorraine Davies: Oh yes. My first business was born from strategy and survival, not soul. I was following what I thought I “should” do — scaling fast, hitting numbers — but I felt completely disconnected.
Then my personal life collapsed, and suddenly the façade didn’t matter anymore. I had to ask: what does success mean if it costs me my truth?
(00:39:11)
Kimberly Spencer: That’s a mic drop moment right there. What does success mean if it costs me my truth? Because courage isn’t just about taking bold action — it’s about having the integrity to walk away when something no longer aligns.
Lorraine Davies: Yes. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is release what you’ve outgrown. For me, courage looked like closing a business, moving out, and starting again — with no certainty, just faith.
Rewriting Your Story in Real Time
(00:40:02)
Kimberly Spencer: That right there — faith. It’s so often underestimated in business. We talk about courage as if it’s just action, but sometimes courage is that deep trust that something is unfolding even when you can’t see the evidence yet.
Lorraine Davies: Yes, and that’s exactly how I felt. It wasn’t logical. It wasn’t strategic. It was energetic alignment. I had to rebuild my life and my business by following intuition instead of fear — which felt so foreign at first.
(00:42:38)
Kimberly Spencer: That’s what I love about your story — it’s courage in real time. You didn’t wait for the dust to settle before you started speaking your truth. You embodied storytelling as strategy — sharing your story while it was still raw, still unfolding.
Lorraine Davies: Yeah, it’s funny because people would say, “Oh my God, you’re so brave to talk about this publicly.” And I’d think, I’m not being brave, I’m being honest. But I guess that’s what courage looks like sometimes — honesty, even when it’s uncomfortable.
The Power of Embodied Storytelling
(00:45:12)
Kimberly Spencer: I say this all the time — courage doesn’t come before the story. It’s built through the story. Every time you tell the truth, your nervous system learns that it’s safe to be seen.
Lorraine Davies: Yes! And when I started teaching that to my clients, everything shifted for them too. Because courage and storytelling are cyclical — the more you tell your truth, the more courage you build, and the more your story evolves.
(00:47:55)
Kimberly Spencer: Exactly. And this is why I’m so passionate about visibility as an energetic practice — not just a marketing tactic. Because when your visibility is rooted in authenticity, your content carries healing frequencies. It’s not about algorithms; it’s about resonance.
Lorraine Davies: Totally. When we’re aligned, people don’t just see your posts — they feel you. That’s how storytelling becomes service.
Turning Pain Into Purpose
(00:50:23)
Kimberly Spencer: You mentioned earlier that you turned £80K of debt into your most valuable life lesson. That’s alchemy — transforming pain into purpose. Tell me more about what that process taught you about courage.
Lorraine Davies: Oh, everything. That chapter taught me that courage is not about bulldozing through fear — it’s about staying connected to yourself when everything’s falling apart.
There were days I couldn’t even look at my bank account, but I forced myself to breathe and say, “This is where I am, and I can still choose to love myself here.” That’s courage. That’s storytelling — being honest with yourself about where you’re at and writing a new narrative from there.
(00:54:11)
Kimberly Spencer: That’s so beautiful. And it’s why I think your story resonates with so many — because it’s not sugarcoated. It’s truth served with compassion.
Lorraine Davies: Thank you. That means a lot. For me, courage isn’t about pretending to be fearless. It’s about feeling everything fully and choosing to move anyway.
Courage as a Legacy
(00:57:09)
Kimberly Spencer: That’s such an important distinction. Courage isn’t the absence of fear — it’s the mastery of it. It’s saying, “I’m scared, but I’ll still stand in my story.”
And that’s legacy-level storytelling. Because when you share your truth, you give people a map for their own transformation.
Lorraine Davies: Yes. Every time someone messages me saying, “Your post made me feel less alone,” I know I’m on the right path. That’s why I’ll never stop sharing my story — it’s not about me anymore; it’s about impact.
(01:00:06)
Kimberly Spencer: That’s exactly it. Your story doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful — it just has to be yours.
And Queen, if you’re listening, let this be your reminder: your voice, your story, your courage — they’re not just for you. They’re for the woman who needs your light to find her own.
Final Thoughts: The Courage Ripple Continues
