Ditch the Mic & Just Get It Done Communication Queen Podcast with Kimberly Spencer

Enjoy this episode & transcript below where Kimberly Spencer, Master NLP Mindset & Communications Coach and CEO of Communication Queens, talks about the podcasting process.

Ever feel like your voice has to be wrapped in perfection before the world can hear it? In this raw, real, and radically empowering episode, Kimberly Spencer strips down the podcasting process — literally ditching her microphone — to show you how simple it can be to share your story now, not someday.

With her newborn nursing in one arm and her laptop balanced between her knees, Kimberly broadcasts this episode from the corner of her couch — no pop filter, no studio, no problem. Because when your message is a mission, perfection is optional.

She dives deep into how the “shoulds” we stack up — the professional mic, the polished setup, the perfect timing — are often the very obstacles blocking our impact. You’ll learn how to reframe resistance, simplify your systems, and let go of performance pressure so your story can do what it was born to do: connect, convert, and catalyze transformation.

Whether you’re a podcaster, coach, speaker, or content creator, this episode is a heartfelt permission slip to let your voice be heard — as messy, magical, and meaningful as it is.

Your voice is your power, Queen. Don’t let a missing mic silence your message.

Podcast Reintroduction: Raw and Real

Welcome to the Communication Queens podcast for the visionary leaders, speakers, service providers, and podcasters who are looking to stand out sharing their story. I'm your host, Kimberly Spencer — former screenwriter turned master communications coach.

On this podcast, I'll be coaching you on how to share your own transformation story so that you increase your visibility, influence, and income on podcast interviews. Let's get your voice heard.

Behind the Scenes: Why I Ditch the Fancy Setup

Hey there, I'm Kimberly Spencer, founder of the Communication Queens Agency, where we help you leverage podcast guesting and podcasting into lead generation for your business.

And in this episode, I wanted to share why I ditched the mic. Like, literally, I am not recording with a microphone. It is just me and my laptop.

And it's quite simply one very simple reason: breastfeeding.

Postpartum, Pivots & Prioritizing Ease

As I have been deep in my postpartum portal, post-gigantic business pivot, post a lot of things — post book release — I have been able to take the time and have the space to look at: How can we make everything easier, more streamlined?

That goes personally as well as professionally. And I have checked my heart so many times. I was like, okay, is this podcast still right for the world? And I was like, yep, yep. Our listeners definitely say so.

And since it's serving you, I wanted to serve you with how easy we could make it.

Uncovering the “Shoulds” Holding Me Back

And I was like, well, how am I then making doing this podcast hard for me?

And when I realized I said, oh, it's because I think I have to be behind the mic and be at my desk and be video recording and all the things — where right now I'm not at my desk. I am lying on the corner of my couch.

And I have been going back and forth for the past 30 days, from couch corner to bed and maybe upstairs to tuck my boys in. So I started looking at: How were all the ways I was making it hard? And what are all the shoulds?

Debunking Podcasting “Shoulds”

The shoulds of podcasting are that you should have a great mic and that you should have, you know, this whole fancy backdrop and this setup.

And that's not necessarily true.

And hopefully this podcast episode can prove that to you — as to just how easy it can be.

From Couch to Content

I am literally doing this from the corner of my couch. My daughter is still somewhat breastfeeding — um, like, she's definitely still breastfeeding. But as far as like her food source? But she's still somewhat nursing, somewhat falling asleep.

And the tiny little coos that you may hear in the background — those may get edited out. They may not. But for the most part, thanks to podcasting AI, the editing and making the sound quality sound professional and in front of a mic, even with just my laptop microphone…

Let's be honest, it's not the best microphone on the planet.

I literally Googled "where is the mic on a MacBook Pro" to find where it was so that I wasn't covering up the mic with a blanket or my child or something like that.

Simple Tools, Same Big Impact

I am sitting with the laptop in between my knees, speaking into it, talking to you while my daughter is falling asleep to the sound of my voice. So if I can do it, you can too.

I think there's a lot of perceptions as to all the shoulds — how you should record a podcast, how you should produce content, how you should get your message out there into the world.

And honestly, as much as I would love to just sit down and batch a bunch of content — and I do that, at the same time — for certain things like this podcast, I just need to make it easy.

Stop Overcomplicating Your Voice

Look at what stage in your life you are at and what is required.

Because when we stack on all these shoulds of additional requirements, suddenly it allows us to have excuses to not produce the thing.

And so the should of “I should have a microphone.” I tried it. I tried actually having my laptop in between my knees with my nice fancy mic holding it, but with the wires and with my child… I was just like, not comfortable with that.

There was just a lot of crossed wires and I didn’t want to have that while nursing. So I just wanted to make it really simple.

Let This Be Your Permission Slip

This is why I simplified the podcast. This is why I simplify everything.

And I do this — and I'm sharing this with you — to show you that it's possible for you too.

Literally with podcast AI, I can just click a button, apply magic dust, and it takes out all the extra sounds. It turns the microphone into sounding very professional, like I'm in front of an actual mic. And I can apply noise reduction and auto-leveling to make this sound equal and reduce the little gurgling sounds in the background from my daughter breastfeeding.

Start Now. Not Someday.

Podcast AI makes it so easy for me to just produce the content and get the work out there.

And hopefully this is an example for you as to how easy you can make it for yourself.

So if you've been delaying on starting a podcast, or producing content, or putting your message out there in some way — just let this be your call to arms.

Final Challenge: Question the “Shoulds”

Question: How am I making this harder on myself?

What are the shoulds that I am lining up that create more dominoes to tackle down, and more obstacles to tackle — rather than just doing the dang thing and getting it done?

I'd love to know from you. DM me at @CommunicationQueensAgency and let us know:

👉 What are those shoulds that have stood in your way from getting your message out to the masses?
