I'm your host, Kimberly Spencer, former screenwriter turned master communications coach.
On this podcast, I'll be coaching you on how to share your own transformation story so that you increase your visibility, influence, and income on podcast interviews.
Let's get your voice heard.
Hey there.
I am Kimberly Spencer, your communication queen, coach and founder of the Communication Queens Agency and Crown Yourself.
I and I just I am so excited because this this topic comes off of the the back of a series of consulate calls and when, when the universe kind of sends me one person with one problem, I'm like, oh, okay, I could do a podcast episode on that.
But when it sends me three within the span of a week with the same problem, I'm like, no, this is a podcast episode.
So the visibility trap that I see, and I see this with a lot of people who are in a corporate position looking to leave their corporate job, and they may have done some certification programs, may have joined some coaching programs, they may have written a book.
They've done these things that allow them to start dipping their toes into the realm of entrepreneurship.
And if you're in currently stuck in a 9 to 5 and you're feeling this and like, let me know.
The Power of Conversations Over Broadcasting
So the trap with visibility is the belief that if more people see me, I'll just make more sales.
And while yes, you need people to see you in order to make more sales, visibility without intention does not equal conversions.
However, just like I said in my best selling book, Make Every Podcast Want You.
It's conversations with the correct people that lead to conversions.
And yes, social media can be a conversation.
A LinkedIn post can stimulate a conversation.
Your podcast can stimulate a conversation.
Going on someone else's podcast can stimulate a conversation.
These are all potential conversation starters.
But if you're not actually having conversations, most people what they're doing on social media and with their own podcasts is just blasting out to the world and broadcasting, not actually converting or conversating with their audience.
So, for example, this podcast episode is the beginning of a conversation, the continuation of a conversation really, that I've had with three people in one week around their visibility strategy and their actual need to have a sales strategy.
So I know this conversation is probably going to be relevant for a few of you listening to this podcast.
And that's why you want to look at the visibility opportunities that you're having.
Are you turning those into conversations because conversations create conversions?
Aligning Visibility with a Sales Strategy
Visibility should be fueling qualified leads or qualified conversations.
Not just vanity metrics.
So you want to align and make sure that your visibility is tied into your sales strategy.
The Importance of Follow-Up
One of our clients had a conversation with me and was like, I'm not seeing conversions from the strategy.
And I said, did you follow the follow up?
Because as far as I'm looking into your dashboard, like you haven't done any of the follow up steps to build a relationship with the podcaster?
And this client was like, no, I didn't follow the follow up.
And I said, well, then there you have it.
Like, if you're not building that relationship, if you're not furthering the conversation to explore the potential for a relationship, then you're treating those visibility moments, those visibility opportunities like a one night stand and you're just showing up, blasting everyone with your awesomeness and then piecing out, well, the people who really want to do business with you.
They want to build that relationship.
They want to know that you're going to be the person who's going to be there, who's going to call them out, who's going to hold them accountable, who's going to commit?
And if you don't demonstrate that with how you follow through, with following through with your visibility strategy and leading into a sales strategy, then you're not going to see conversions from podcast guesting.
You have to align your visibility with ensuring that not only is there awareness and interest of who you are and what you do and who you help, but there has to be some form of desire, mutual desire on both parties part to create and take that next step of action, of exploration.
Action can just be exploration.
I've had many conversations on podcasts turn into an exploratory conversation that generated referrals.
But it came from the desire being there mutually to explore.
Is there more to this relationship?
Making the Ask and Owning Your Value
And so.
And not only that, the sales strategy had to be there as well with do I have offers that fit this person or their prospects or the people that they could connect me with?
Do I have products, services, offerings, and am I comfortable with offering them?
Not for free, but for paid?
And so that's why I said specifically with these three conversations that I had within this past week with consult clients, I said, it's not.
It wasn't that they were lacking visibility.
And it also wasn't that they were lacking experience.
They were well experienced.
The only piece that they were missing was in the experience of making the ask.
It's kind of like dating.
You have to ask for the second date.
You have to ask an exploratory question of like, can I see you again?
And it doesn't mean that you are converting podcasters.
What it does mean is that you are opening the door to where this relationship could lead.
Maybe it does lead to a conversion, but maybe it leads to heaps of referrals because your podcaster is speaking directly to your ideal customer's audience.
As the relationship builds and as you see, okay, this person has a problem, I can help them solve that problem.
My products and services and offerings help them solve that problem.
I deserve to be well compensated for the knowledge and for the ability to solve that problem.
So I'm going to help that person solve that problem, and they're going to in return, help me by giving me money.
So you have to have some level of confidence.
And that does come with the level of competence of making offers.
Frequently, when most clients come to me in my coaching business for Crown Yourself and they have yet to be making offers consistently, my number one task for them to do, and they must do it through to completion, and they agree to do it.
And they sign on the dotted line that they will do their tasking to completion is you got to start going out and having conversations with 15 people a week to generate business.
Period.
You got to go out and start having conversations with people.
When you're serious about being a business owner and an entrepreneur at that stage, that's when you start saying, hey, I'm looking for committed relationships and you stop messing around with the other people who are just interested in messing around, and you start really looking, not from a desperation point, but from an energy of, yeah, I'm not available for someone who just wants to mess around.
I'm available for the people who are serious, who are action takers, who have a desire to solve a problem, and they want support in solving that problem.
And I can be that person to support them in doing that.
Confidence and Competence in Selling
You have to be in the energy of put a ring on it, and the energy of put a ring on it is pay me for my services.
The confidence in your skill set and the competence to ask for compensation for your skill set.
Both of those need to be present.
Live on.
So go out there, make the offers, and remember that visibility is powerful, but only when it's intentional, strategic, and aligned with a sales plan that works.
Don't just show up.
You have to show up with a purpose and a plan.
That's why podcast guesting I wrote in my book.
I think it was like chapter five, um, of the relationship coach who was going on all these podcasts and had not converted, had no ROI from podcasting because she didn't have a strategic sales plan.
She didn't have a follow up plan.
She didn't have a strategy beyond just show up and get the visibility opportunity, claim that, and then just, you know, it's kind of the if you build it, they will come.
That's not exactly how business works.
Like, yes, you can manifest many amazing things.
And it is about putting out those energetics and simultaneously having a strategy and a plan that is actionable to move, to work backwards from what it is that you want.
And what you want is to generate sales and income for your business.
Otherwise, it's not a business, it's a hobby.
