5 Steps to Fix a Mistake on a Podcast Interview
Jun 17, 2023
Mistakes happen. You flub a word. Fall out of your chair. Kick the mic 🎤 Sound cuts out.
Remember, to err is human. We as humans actually psychologically do NOT trust someone who we perceive to be “perfect.”
So if you make a mistake, have a flub, or mess-up something up on a podcast, just remember these steps.
No.1️⃣ BREATHE. No puppies 🐶 died because you messed up a word or said something wrong. Your mind may be wanting to spiral down the rabbit hole of how this could "ruin" you. Don't let it. All is well. Let your sympathetic nervous system and fears of rejection chill TF out.
No.2️⃣ REFRAME - Mistakes make you MORE human. Not less. Now your mistake just humanized you in the eyes of your audience. You’re welcome. Thank you self because we as humans connect to authenticity and vulnerability.
No.3️⃣ REMEMBER - Shame loves secrets, so pretending like it didn’t happen is going to make it more cringe 😬 so instead…
No.4️⃣ NAME IT TO CLAIM IT. Call yourself out. Address it. There is power, profit and possibility in your mistake. This also diffuses it’s power AND diffuses the potential opportunity for any naysayers or negative nellies to call out your mistake as a shadow of their own negative perceptions. When you name it, claim it, you OWN it. And thus it has no power over you.
No.5️⃣ MOVE ON. Cue Ariana Grande because, “Thank you, next.” Remember you are here to serve a purpose and serve.
👑 QUEENLY COMMUNICATION PRO TIP: Use the mistake, flub, or f*ck up as a teaching tool, demonstrating the EMBODIMENT of the principles you’re about to talk about on that podcast interview.
It is your humanity that will connect others to their potential to reclaim their own stories. BE the example.
Let your story be heard. And remember, your story has the power to transform lives…just by you being courageous, vulnerable and YOU.
If you want to see this demonstrated, watch this video, and then listen to this episode entitled, Revolutionizing Podcasting by Kimberly Spencer on Alex Muir's Mindcep Podcast. which actually was the one recorded in the video that shows how to recover after a mistake...like falling off your chair right after your introduction.
