What If Joy Is the Strategy? Rethinking Success, Visibility & Marketing with the Joy Anyway Strategy

[00:00] – What If Joy Isn’t the Reward, But the Strategy?

Kimberly Spencer (host):
What if joy isn't something that you earned after success, but actually the strategy that creates it? So many high performing leaders on their quest for visibility have been taught that we need to build through pressure, through doing more, through force, through sacrifice. And today's conversation is actually going to disrupt that entire paradigm.

[00:29] – Introducing the Joy Anyway Strategy & Jan Hoath

Kimberly Spencer (host):
Today I'm joined by Jan Hoath, the creator of Joy Anyway. It's a movement. It is a powerful call for spiritually awake leaders who are done with the facade, the fake, the over giving, and who are ready to reimagine life and leadership through audacious joy.

She is the author of Joy Anyway: Transform adversity through audacious joy, and her work blends deep spiritual embodiment with something refreshingly grounded—consistency, devotion, and repeatable systems that actually support you in your life and in your leadership.

[01:40] – The Birth of a Book: From Vision to Reality

Kimberly Spencer (host):
So you wrote the book Joy Anyway, and I know what it's like to birth a book, baby. What was this journey like for you?

Jan Hoath (guest):
Well, I think we match the visionary piece where it's like, I've known these books that have been in my heart for years… decades it seems. And yet the actual from like, I'm doing this, this is happening…

I actually did it inside of coaching my own program… I said to my clients, I'm ready to write my book. My intention during this 100 days is to write it and at least get it published in digital format on Amazon.

And I did that.

[03:21] – Using Structure to Unlock Creativity (The Joy Anyway Strategy in Action)

Jan Hoath (guest):
I used my own Joy container as a loving structure to show up for myself every day. I called it capturing the book… because for me it's like the creative process—it’s in there, it’s out there—it’s like let’s capture it though.

[04:51] – A Book as a Business Asset

Kimberly Spencer (host):
The book had to make sense for me. I wrote the book in practice to serve and support—but also to serve my business. Like a really nice $15 business card.

[06:00] – Writer’s Block, Creativity & Flow

Kimberly Spencer (host):
How did you find your joy through those uncomfortable writing moments?

Jan Hoath (guest):
Honestly, I couldn’t get to writing fast enough. It was so ready… like a ripe fruit ready to be picked.

And yet, what helped was my daily joy habits—guided meditation, movement, and mindful reflection.

[07:00] – Joy Habits That Fuel Creativity

Jan Hoath (guest):
It is about tuning in every day—what is my play today? What is my movement today? What is my meditation?

[08:11] – Mindset vs Mind Flow

Kimberly Spencer (host):
Mindset is the biggest problem that so many people get stuck in… because they get set on always developing and never accepting themselves.

[09:12] – Falling in Love with the Creative Process

Kimberly Spencer (host):
It reminds me of Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic—having a love affair with your creativity.

Jan Hoath (guest):
I would say I definitely did.

[11:11] – Why Joy Creates Magnetism in Business

Kimberly Spencer (host):
Joy is so magnetic… you may work hard, but you’re hardly working.

[11:53] – Feeling Stuck? Go Find Your Joy

Jan Hoath (guest):
When you feel stuck or stagnant—that’s when I would invite you to step back and go get in your joy.

[12:24] – Simple Practices to Reconnect to Flow

Jan Hoath (guest):
I love movement, music, dancing… running… baking… standing in nature.

It doesn’t have to cost anything. It’s the intention of play.

[14:20] – Joy as a Creative Strategy

Jan Hoath (guest):
Play moves energy. It helps you tap into your creativity and your higher self.

[15:21] – Marketing, Fear & Visibility

Kimberly Spencer (host):
How do you fall in love with marketing?

Jan Hoath (guest):
That’s been a journey.

There were times where I would go to hit send… and I would be shaking.

[16:38] – Healing the Fear of Being Seen

Jan Hoath (guest):
Writing the book helped me get grounded in who I am… and stand in my own lane with grace, sovereignty, and power.

[18:23] – The Truth About Marketing

Jan Hoath (guest):
Marketing… it’s just a different way of sharing.

[19:36] – Letting Go of Perfection

Kimberly Spencer (host):
I used to try to control people’s perception of me… and curate everything perfectly.

[20:30] – Presence vs Performance in Marketing

Kimberly Spencer (host):
Presence is not performative.

[24:05] – The Core of the Joy Anyway Strategy

Jan Hoath (guest):
The secret… distilled down… is bringing joy to the marketing.

[26:11] – Intuition vs Strategy

Jan Hoath (guest):
I follow intuition first. It doesn’t always feel comfortable—but it feels right.

[27:20] – Real-Life Content Creation

Jan Hoath (guest):
I saw a moose on my run… took a video… posted it.

You can’t manufacture that.

[28:25] – Your Message Matters

Jan Hoath (guest):
There is someone out there that needs to hear what you have to say.

[29:46] – Stop Overthinking Your Content

Jan Hoath (guest):
When you move from joy… it honestly doesn’t matter. You trust it’s working.

[31:00] – Marketing as Relationship Building

Kimberly Spencer (host):
Marketing is just relationship building.

[32:31] – Final Takeaway: Just Own You

Jan Hoath (guest):
Joy is an acronym: Just Own You.

✨ FINAL THOUGHT (SEO + BRAND VOICE CLOSE)

The Joy Anyway Strategy isn’t about bypassing hard things.

It’s about choosing a different starting point.

Not pressure.
Not perfection.
Not performance.

But presence.
Alignment.
Joy.

Because when you build from joy…
You don’t just create success.

You create something that actually feels like yours.
