Kimberly Spencer (00:00:05) - Welcome to the Communication Queens podcast for the visionary leaders, speakers, service providers and podcasters who are looking to stand out sharing their story. I'm your host, Kimberly Spencer, former screenwriter turned master communications coach. On this podcast, I'll be coaching you on how to share your own transformation story. To that, you increase your visibility, influence, and income on podcast interviews. Let's get your voice heard.

Kimberly Spencer (00:00:31) - Hello and welcome back to the Communication Queens podcast. It is quickie time. Today we are diving into why your emotions matter on a podcast. So with a personal brand, which is you going out there being the face of your brand, whether it's for your business under a different name, for your businesses, under your name, for a tech product that you are the CEO of, whatever it is you are building your personal brand as you are simultaneously building your business. And with that personal brand, people will connect with you on an immersive and emotional level. And with that personal brand, people will connect with you and to you on an emotional level.

Kimberly Spencer (00:01:15) - This is exactly how, as a coach, I have gotten on calls with people who have literally cried when they saw my face and I was like, hi, how are you? On a connection call? And they were like, you know me so well. I feel like I'm, you know, they were super fans. And I get the the question all the time. How do you know me so well? It's like you were speaking to me. Well, that's more esoteric of a subject because what is personal is universal. But if you really know the person that you're speaking to, you will contact and connect with them on an emotional, spiritual, mental soul level. And that emotion is. So powerful, and that is a power that must be wielded. And with great power, as you know, comes great responsibility. So you need to also, when you are going on podcasts, consider the emotional impact of your message. Emotions create perceptions. So I'm going to give you a very strong.

Kimberly Spencer (00:02:28) - Personal brand who tends to create a lot of emotions. Love him or hate him? Trump. People have such a strong, visceral emotional reaction, either in absolute love and devotion or absolute detest, because he is masterful at navigating the emotional perceptions, understanding that with strong emotions in one favorable direction, there also can be strong emotions in an unfavorable direction. Your emotions matter in the brand that you're creating, if the emotions that you're also projecting out on social media. So for example, if you are on social media or on a podcast interview and you are complaining and you are negative, then you're going to attract more complainers and negatives people into your brand and business. I highly doubt this is you because you are a conscious leader who is listening to this podcast and wanting to uplevel their brand and their business and grow with podcasting and serve and impact more with podcasting. But. Understand the emotional undertones of the messages that you are communicating in any story that you're sharing, whether written, verbal on a podcast, auditory in person.

Kimberly Spencer (00:03:55) - Understand the emotional journey that you are taking someone on. When I share of my experience of growing up with an addict, I understand and actually have reverence for the emotions that come up within me and that may come up in the form of. Detest. Sometimes when I share the story of my father molesting me when I was a child. Because that is a disgusting thing. But I also understand the emotional connection that I can guide my listeners through to the breakthroughs that I that took me 30 years to get to the breakthroughs that took me 30 years to have, which was that, because that happened to me. It's actually been a gift that is allowed me to literally save people from suicide. And I share that with my dad. My dad knew that in the last years of his life, he wanted me to share the story because he knew how much him being molested when he was a child impacted him, and how much it also impacted me. So. Understanding even when you're sharing deeply personal, emotional stories, when you understand that there will be perceptions that will come with that story, it is your responsibility as a communicator to wield that power responsibly.

Kimberly Spencer (00:05:21) - And if you want to wield the sword of blame and shame and guilt, pointing a finger at another side like sometimes politicians do. Then you will get followers. You will get people to convert to your side because they'll be absolutely the yes men and yes women who agree with you. And you'll get the opposite side of the spectrum. You'll get those people who absolutely hate and detest your message and what you stand for. The key is, though, to understand how to wield the sword of emotional perception responsibly. So what stories? So what stories can you share on a podcast, interview or in your social media? That caused you to drum up some emotions. Understand the perceptions of those emotions that people will see, and they will read your words and listen to your story through the lens of their emotions. And this is why working on your influence skills, your clarity skills, your energy skills, your emotional regulation skills as an entrepreneur, as a leader. This is what I do with my clients as a coach with Crown Yourself.

Kimberly Spencer (00:06:32) - To really be able to navigate so that they are clear on not only their own emotional perceptions of what they're perceiving is going on in the stories that going on inside their own heads, but also in the stories that they're communicating outwardly and what those mean and how to communicate them, maybe even more efficiently outwardly, so that they hit harder on certain emotions that actually drive people into the changes that they want people to make, to enroll them in the vision of the greater impact, which is the whole reason as to why you're going on podcasts and putting yourself out there and building a personal brand and standing out more is so that you can make that greater impact. And understanding how to carefully and responsibly curate the emotions of your audience and your audiences emotional journey. That is a deep responsibility. Honor it and move forward with grace and ease and understanding the side in which people will take when they feel those emotions. Are they going to rally for you or are they going to rally against you? It is always my intention when I go on a podcast for them to feel lovingly challenged but lovingly challenge.

Kimberly Spencer (00:07:48) - That's why I say lovingly challenged, also cheered on and also from the perspective of if she can, I can to. That is always the undertone of emotional possibility that I want them to have. I want it to have the emotion of possibility I want. I want them to feel the emotion of courage, of facing their fears. I want them to feel the. Neutrality over certain experiences in the past, and how you can get yourself into that state of neutral to where you actually see things as having happened for you instead of to you. Those are my intentions when going on a podcast. As far as the emotional undertones of how I am guiding the emotions of the audience as a communicator. So what are yours?
