Kimberly Spencer (00:00:00) - 95% of podcasts are not worth your time as a business owner, as a visionary, as a leader, as a CEO to be getting on 95%. But I'm going to tell you the 5% that are in this episode. Welcome to the Communication Queens podcast for the visionary leaders, speakers, service providers and podcasters who are looking to stand out sharing their story. I'm your host, Kimberly Spencer, former screenwriter turned master communications coach. On this podcast, I'll be coaching you on how to share your own transformation story so that you increase your visibility, influence, and income on podcast interviews. Let's get your voice heard. Hello and welcome back to this quickie on the Communication Queens podcast. I am Kimberly Spencer, your host and founder of the Communication Queens Agency, where we specialize in increasing your brand awareness and your bottom line through guest podcasting, we get our clients strategically matched on the right podcasts that are right fit for their vision, values, and business that can translate into more profit, more strategic partnerships, more referral business, more affiliate business into your business, and so that you can serve more people and more with more brand awareness and more visibility.

Kimberly Spencer (00:01:10) - Now why I say 95% of podcasts aren't worth your time is because it's true. So it's not a clickbait headline. It is a real lovable data fact hashtag facts. Because right now there are anywhere between 4.5 million and 5.5 million podcasts across all user platforms, but only about 400,000 have produced an episode in the last 90 days. This is because a podcast interview is the cool, new disguised way for picking your brain. And so here's how it works. Like. And I'm going to break it down because this sucked. Because it happened to a dear friend of mine. And I was like, no, you didn't check that. She had the qualifiers that I talk about. And she's like, yeah, I should have checked. So she went on a podcast interview and she spent a good 45 minutes, like answering all the interviews questions and sharing her story and giving away her best tips and tricks and strategies and all that for free. And some of them were related to a personal struggle in the podcasters business that she was handling, and she was able to kind of coach, in a way, the podcaster on that platform.

Kimberly Spencer (00:02:20) - And then at the end, the podcaster didn't distribute the episode. So the podcaster thought they got what they thought they needed. So they said, oh, you know, here's my Band-Aid for my gangrenous wound problem. Like, it's how am I coaching clients? But so many people will settle for a band-aid of a tip or a trick or strategy that they think they need in order to better their life and business or relationships or whatever it is, that there is their current problem and so they don't distribute your episode. And this is why our qualifiers are so essential for our agency is one of the key qualifiers. And I will leave a link to the episode where I share the three qualifiers to discover if it is a top 5% podcast, because we only book our clients on the top 5% of podcasts, and that means that that other 95% of podcasters we don't pay attention to, like we don't book our clients on podcasts that have less than 30 episodes. So you don't need to waste your precious time energy on a show that will not be a win win, win, win win for all involved.

Kimberly Spencer (00:03:25) - So every podcast we pitch has to meet a very specific standard and a very specific criteria. And one of those criterias is that they have distributed an episode in the last 90 days. So the only time that we will make an exception for this rule is if they are a seasonal podcast and they are on season three, Nazis and two. So season two, season two, they can say, oh, season two is coming. And that's sometimes disguised as they just had a little bit of pod fade, which is a term in the industry for like they got tired of doing their podcast because they weren't seeing results or impact or revenue from it. And so they kind of stopped. And so they got pod fade so they can say, oh, season two is coming in season two, who knows when it's coming. So we don't do season two, but if they like are on season three, then that shows that they have a track record of producing seasonally, which that is the only time we will make an exception for our clients is if they have a track record of producing seasonally, they sit.

Kimberly Spencer (00:04:26) - It's not that season two is just some like be as excuse for like they just got pod fade and stopped kind of producing. So we make sure that every single podcast that we book our clients on has either producer distributed an episode in the last 90 days or. Is on season three of the podcast. That's how you can discern if the the 5% of podcasts that are actually worth your time, who will actually distribute your episode. You want to make sure they have a history of distribution, not just production, because the distribution is what matters. That's what gets you greater visibility. That's what gets you turning a 1 to 1 conversation and into a one to many. That's what gets you to borrow their audience. If you're if they don't distribute your episode, the only person you've had a conversation with, as you've had a 30 minute to an hour long pick your brain session, and I don't want that for you. You deserve better. You really, really deserve better. So choose the 5% of podcasts that are worth your time.

Kimberly Spencer (00:05:19) - Definitely go back to the episode. I think it's episode two that we break down our qualifiers for the other qualifiers. As far as what we look for in a podcast, to make sure it's in this top 5% and bare minimum, and then from there, make sure that they have produced an episode and distribute it key distribution in the last 90 days, or they're on season three.
