Welcome to Communication Queens
Welcome to the Communication Queens podcast for the visionary leaders, speakers, service providers, and podcasters who are looking to stand out sharing their story. I'm your host, Kimberly Spencer, former screenwriter turned master communications coach.
On this podcast, I'll be coaching you on how to share your own transformation story so that you increase your visibility, influence, and income on podcast interviews. Let's get your voice heard.
The Secret of High-Performing Leaders: LEVERAGE
Having coached leaders, visionaries, CEOs and entrepreneurs—all thought leaders in their fields—for nearly nine years now, and in my Crown Yourself coaching business, I can tell you the one difference between leaders who build their brand awareness and their bottom line is this: leverage.
Great leaders understand how to leverage their time, money, and resources to accomplish remarkable feats, so that one hour of their time turns into exponential returns.
Leverage #1: Visibility
This is why leaders turn to us for guest podcasting. Because with guest podcasting, you get to:
- Leverage your visibility.
When you appear as a guest on a podcast, you gain access to an existing, engaged audience that the podcast host has cultivated over time. This audience is often highly receptive to the host's recommendations and insights.
In fact, it's reported that 42% of Millennial podcast listeners report purchasing products and services that the host recommends. That's incredible. There is no social media out there that has that level of both visibility and business viability.
Leverage #2: Social Proof
- You get social proof.
Because speaking of the host recommendations—they are literally recommending you. By having you on their podcast, they basically, by going on a podcast as their guest, you are creating automatic social proof.
So for example, I was just on Elzie Leonard The Third's Enterprise Now podcast. Elzie is the mayor of Podcast Town. He has a podcast agency where he does your podcast for you. We do your guest bookings for you and I drop some podcasting wisdom bombs on his show.
And you know, he backed me up saying, Kimberly just validated everything that I've been saying to you about the power of podcasting. So I backed him up with what he's been saying. He backed me up with what I've been saying.
So it provided—I provided social proof for his message. He provided social proof for mine. And then right there on the interview, we now became referral partners for our companies because of that podcast interview.
So not only did it become social proof for his audience, but it also generated a referral partnership even before the episode was produced—even before the episode was distributed. This is the power of guest podcasting.
Leverage #3: Time
- You get to leverage your time.
Podcast interviews are usually 30 minutes to an hour. Then the podcaster—whom you don't pay—usually goes off, edits, produces, distributes, markets the episode. Sometimes they go off and even build like some fancy social media images and all, you know, the video and do that for their socials so that you can also promote it.
That's one of the things that we also do as an agency if the podcaster doesn't do that, because podcasters are regularly strapped for time, energy, resources as well. So we produce those social media assets for our clients.
But here's the power of that:
From one podcast interview that you go on for 30 to 60 minutes, you get one long-form piece of sweet, sweet, evergreen content. Yes, podcasts live on for as long as their hosts pay for hosting.
And it can be—I mean, on average, about 50% of the podcasts on Apple are not even active podcasts, meaning their hosts are paying for continual hosting and they're not even active. Like they're not even taking new interviews or recording new episodes.
So you get sweet, sweet, evergreen publicity. And especially if they put it up on YouTube, then it's even more evergreen.
And then you get social media images, social media material, videos of you speaking—which then only promotes even more speaking opportunities, even more podcasts.
And then... there is so much fat. And then you get to have that additional social proof of showing your own audience:
“Hey, this guy over here, Mr. Podcast Host, thinks I'm a genius. So I'm gonna share with my audience who I'm building my reputation and social proof with. They think I'm smart. You think I'm smart? Great. Awesome. Yes. You think I'm a good person that you build know, like and trust with.”
Leverage #4: Relationships
- Podcast guesting provides you leverage with your relationships.
So guest podcasting opens the doors for valuable networking and collaboration opportunities.
Like I said—like Elzie and I just did a podcast interview and BAM! Referral opportunities.
You can also build meaningful relationships with podcast hosts and their communities, potentially leading to future partnerships, joint ventures, speaking engagements, and sometimes even a 1-to-1 client sort of transactional transformational relationship.
Now, I am not the type of person that says you need to go on a podcast interview with the intention of converting the host. Please do not. That is not why they're having you on their show.
You can go on with having the host become an advocate for your brand, for your business.
Real World Example: Mike Kim
In my book Make Every Podcast Want You: How to Become so Radically Interesting You’ll Barely Keep from Interviewing Yourself, I share about the experience that we had with my two friends, Alan and Kevin, over at Next Level University, which is a global Top 100 personal development podcast.
They came on and taught a class for our Communication Queens and in the class, they shared about Mike Kim, who wrote the book You Are the Brand.
Now, I share in my book about them sharing about Mike Kim, who wrote the book You Are the Brand. They shared not only on their own podcast—because Mike came on as a guest—they shared about him a few other times on other podcast episodes because they were so blown away by his interview.
They then shared with him with our community, which is now in our course on how to get booked on a Global Top 100 masterclass.
I then shared about that experience—about them sharing about Mike Kim in my book—and now I'm sharing about that experience and interview, even though I have not yet met Mike Kim.
But now he's had at least seven visibility opportunities, only one of which he showed up for. But that was because he built a relationship and dazzled two podcasters. Now that's extraordinary.
The Big Picture: Podcast Guesting as a Transformational Strategy
This is how we've had some of our clients go on to book speaking gigs with Microsoft, Google, keynotes at convention centers—because podcast guesting is a strategic approach that enables you to leverage a platform and audience to achieve your marketing and branding goals.
It is a powerful tool in the arsenal of any leader who aims to maximize their impact and reach a wider audience.
