Kimberly Spencer (00:00:00) - When is a time to start podcast guesting for your business? So podcast guesting, as you know, is a very hot lead generation strategy. It's a visibility strategy. It's a brand awareness strategy. But when is it the right time to do it in your business? We're diving into that on today's episode. Welcome to the Communication Queens podcast for the visionary leaders, speakers, service providers and podcasters who are looking to stand out sharing their story. I'm your host, Kimberly Spencer, former screenwriter turned master communications coach. On this podcast, I'll be coaching you on how to share your own transformation story so that you increase your visibility, influence, and income on podcast interviews. Let's get your voice heard. Hey there, I'm Kimberly Spencer, founder of Communication Queens Agency and the host of this communication Queen podcast. And we are in for another quickie today, because one of the common questions I see as an agency owner, where we specialize in strategic matchmaking between founders, visionaries, revolutionaries, disruptors, CEOs, entrepreneurs and getting them booked on the right podcast that are in alignment for their vision, for their values, for the brand awareness.

Kimberly Spencer (00:01:10) - And their bottom line is, is it the right time to start podcast guesting for your business? So sometimes you know all business as we all have growth spaces. And so there's a couple qualifying parameters to know, like is this really the right strategy, the right marketing strategy for you, for your business or the right lead generation strategy depends on what your intention is. So first and foremost, what is your intention with podcast guesting? Is your intention with podcast guesting to generate leads, clients and sales? Or is your intention to generate brand awareness, visibility? Promote your book? What is the intention behind that which you're doing? Because depending upon the intention, the strategy is going to be different. So if you're looking to close higher and sales, if you're looking to target specific people for, let's say, your coaching business, like how I was able to generate over a quarter of $1 million in sales for my coaching business. Surround yourself with guest podcasting. If you're looking to do that, there's a different strategy and different type of podcasts you're going to be going on.

Kimberly Spencer (00:02:16) - Then, just like the top 1% 3000 downloads per episode, etc., those level of podcasts, you actually will probably be targeting a smaller podcast audience. Still, I would highly recommend that they qualify for being in the top 5%. And there you can go to the episode on what those qualifications are down below, but making sure they're in the top 5%. And then those podcasts will typically have if they are in alignment with vision and values, then they can be a fit for actually generating and attracting your ideal customer. Now, you always want to make sure that you have a clear idea of what your vision and values are for your business, so we'll start there. If you're not sure on your intention, if you're not sure of what your vision or your values are for your business, podcast casting is not the best place to start and try to figure it out, because podcast casting can end up being a huge waste of time. If you are not clear on your intentions and the strategy behind what you're doing, and by waste of time, I mean a great ego boost that makes you feel like you're doing businessy things, but they're not actually generating results as in more exposure, more brand awareness, more strategic partnerships, etc..

Kimberly Spencer (00:03:30) - If you are looking to go on podcast to generate more strategic partnerships or like big top 1% podcast to generate heaps of brand awareness, then your strategy is going to be a little different for attacking those podcasts, lovingly attacking, of course. But ideally then at that point you're already over the $5,000 bare minimum a month in revenue. So if you're not doing $5,000 or more a month in revenue, then podcast guesting is not the place to figure out your lead generation strategy, because that is a deeper conversation that I have with my clients over on my Crown Yourself platform with our High Performance Acceleration consult. As far as building out what is the strategy that's align for you and your business to be able to get to at bare minimum, $5,000 per month. So if you're not clear on what your strategy is for getting clients, generating clients, or maybe you're not clear on your offer as far as like how you make offers, how to sell podcast guesting is not the place to try to figure out how to do that, because it's also not the place to go on a podcast and just promote your book, or just promote your course, or just promote your stuff.

Kimberly Spencer (00:04:46) - I've seen so many podcast guests go on podcasts, and they constantly, because they're looking to grow their sales for their business or their book or their course. They hide the information behind the wall of the podcast of the course or the book. So basically like saying, oh, it's in my book, or oh, it's in my course. Or oh, when you join this, well, aren't necessarily after you can maybe say that once, maybe twice on a podcast. But why people are listening, they will listen if you are able to serve abundantly and they will want to follow and grow with you and dive deeper with you. If you are on the podcast to serve abundantly, you've already got them in a place where they are paying attention. They are paying with their most valuable asset more valuable than money, which is their time and their energy in that moment. On the podcast interview, if you're still stuck in some form of a scarcity mindset, or if you're in hustle promo go mode, even if you are, check your intention, check your energy, and are you in an energy of serving abundantly? Because when you are, that's when people hear your interview.

Kimberly Spencer (00:06:01) - They hear you dive deep into something and they don't reference that. It was something that was just, you know, that's in a book that they now have to go by, but they've heard the story, they've resonated. And then actually, it's it inspires them to feel the need to feel compelled to have to learn more. Like, it's kind of like when you hear of something like offhandedly on the news or like maybe a friend of you, a friend of yours tells you something about something that's going on in the world, and then suddenly you're like, oh, I need to go down the rabbit hole. And like, we need to, like, research this. And that's that's the point, because you've already piqued their interest. But the only way you pique their interest is not hiding your stuff behind the veil behind it. It's not hiding your story behind the veil of your products and services. And so are you at that place of abundance energetically, to be able to share abundantly, serve abundantly on a podcast interview, and not hold back the really juicy stuff for behind the course or behind the book.

Kimberly Spencer (00:07:00) - It's far better to reference the book and then dive deep into what it is that you're actually referencing, so that people actually want to buy the book even more so, or buy the course even more so. So, and a lot of times what I've seen is if you're not making more than $5,000 a month in your coaching business, or your service based business, or your agency or your or your book profit sales, then that's when the heavy promo tactics start to come out. And it doesn't look good on a podcast. So podcasts are a place where you are able to have an intimate conversation. So the next qualifier is are you able to get vulnerable? Are you able to be real, to be authentic, to share the highs and the lows? Now I'm going to caveat this with some podcasts are now out there saying like on their pre calls, they're like, oh, I, I really want you to get vulnerable. And it feels like, oh my gosh, I'm just meeting you and I'm taking off my clothes for the first time.

Kimberly Spencer (00:07:57) - And it's one of those like moments that you're like, I don't know if I really want to be doing this. It's like,, when I would go on casting calls when I was like 17 years old, and they would ask if there would be something that I would be comfortable with and be like,, meh, maybe, like, I don't know. And it really wasn't like it was definitely a hard no. I just didn't have the discernment at 17, 18, 19 to be able to say that. So just knowing are you of the energy, are you at the place in your life where you are confident in your past, confident in your story, confident in who you've become, confident in where you're going, where you have enough ownership of the things that have happened to you, how they've shaped you, and how they are serving you now presently that you can share about them with courage and vulnerability and openness on a podcast. So it's not about just getting vulnerable for vulnerability sake. It's about being able to be open, authentic and real and honest.

Kimberly Spencer (00:08:52) - And I think a great example is I just interviewed Precious Williams on The Crown Herself podcast for our other,, for my coaching business, and her interview shares the highs of showing up and, you know, being she's been on Nasdaq billboard. She's pitched to the she's pitched to sharks. She was on Shark Tank. She's been on multiple magazines. She is just she's a killer, amazing woman. She is the secret weapon for most fortune 500 companies. As far as how to craft their pitch. Like she's amazing. And she also dealt with homelessness and alcoholism and addiction and suicidal ideation. And she's able to share the light while also sharing the darkness. So I will leave a link to that episode if you want to dive deeper into that episode, because it really is a beautiful, transparent example of both. And yes, you'll hear her reference. She definitely drops like plugs to her four books that she's written, but they are not in a she holds nothing back behind the cover of the book. She's not holding the the goods back.

Kimberly Spencer (00:09:56) - She gives us a killer pitch formula on the podcast, not saying, oh, you know, this is what clients pay me nearly $3,000 to work for two hours on. She gives it away. And then, trusting that those who are in need of her services will take that next step, will want it perfectly, craft for them, and not have to figure it out themselves. So are you at a place with your courage? With your vulnerability? Are you at a place with your level of generosity, of service and there's no need to really hide behind? Hide the good stuff behind a book or a product or a course or service. Are you at a place financially to sustain it? Like, do you have clarity on your offers? Do you know that they sell? Do you know that they make money? Do you know that they are a killer offer? That's a no brainer for people to sign up for. Do you have clear sales processes in place to be able to close future clients, and are you ready for that level of visibility? Because that's another question, is some of the people who come to our agency when they hear that we get our top clients booked on 60 podcasts in one year, they're like, oh my God, that's a lot of visibility.

Kimberly Spencer (00:11:08) - And yeah, that is a lot of expansion. It is a lot energetically. It's a lot of growth and eyes on you, which then also can bring up the fear of abandonment, the fears of rejection, the fears of haters, the fears of having more people see you and more eyes on you. Because what happens when more people see you and there's more eyes on you, as there will be more people who may disagree with you. And that's okay. But are you ready for that? Are you emotionally ready? I have said so often, I am so grateful that I didn't have the level of visibility that I have today. Seven years ago when I started growing crying yourself coaching because I wouldn't have been ready. I was a new mom back then. I was I said I wanted all of this visibility, all of the stages, all of the money, all the things I said I wanted, all the goals. But emotionally and personal development wise, I was not ready seven years ago for where we're going today because.

Kimberly Spencer (00:12:08) - That or for even for what I've been able to achieve today. Because that level of exposure definitely does open you up for haters. For all the other things. Are you prepared emotionally and personal development like do you have a system in place to support you for that next level of visibility which will come with, you know, the 10%, maybe even less, maybe like 5%? I don't get all that much, but I definitely have had people that have not quite so publicly, but up in the DMs said things to to me and that were hurtful or questioning or, you know, oh, I don't think you should be doing this or associating with this person. And I'm like, I am at a place now where I'm like, not like, oh my gosh, what do they think about me? If I'm, oh, do I do I abandon this person who's my friend, who's saying things that I'd like all, all of the stuff like, I know I have a level of boundaries energetically that I'm able to hold because I'm able to hold the space for those difficult conversations.

Kimberly Spencer (00:13:08) - I was not able to do that seven years ago, and I'm so grateful for that progress. But that's you have to know, like, are you able to hold the space for the difficult conversations that do come with more visibility with that, do come with more people having eyes on you, having eyes on your product,, having eyes on your services, more potential judgment and the flip side, more potential revenue, more potential customers, more potential growth. Are you prepared for that? Do you actually have the bandwidth to take on more customers, more clients, more growth this year? Really be honest with yourself. And if it's a yes to all of those, then heck yes, it's time to start podcast guesting in your business because it's going to be amazing for expanding your brand awareness and a long form content capacity that allows for you to leave a legacy because it will do wonders for your business, for your lead generation strategies, for your client generation, for your visibility, for your marketing, for your sales.
